How to edit a Subscribe 2 Newsletter with Dreamweaver

Log into your Subscribe 2 administration via your web browser:

  • Click on Show Templates in the left navigation
  • Click on ‘Edit’ Fall/Winter newsletter in our example - or any existing newsletter template

  • Open Macromedia Dreamweaver if it’s not already open
  • Select ‘File’ – ‘New’ from the top navigation – select ‘Basic page’ and ‘HTML’ in the window that opens and then click on ‘Create’

  • Click on ‘File’ - ‘Save as’ – name it something descriptive for that page and save to your hard drive (navigate to a folder/location of your choice)

  • Back in your browser window in the Subscribe 2 administration area:
    Place your cursor in the html field and press Ctrl and ‘a’ (select all) and then Ctrl and ‘c’ (copy):

  • In Dreamweaver:
    • Click on code view

      Click on code view
    • Place your cursor in the html field and press Ctrl and ‘a’ (select all) and then Ctrl and ‘v’ (Paste)
  • Save your file and click on Design view – your page should look something like the below:

  • Make your editorial changes to the copy of the page –make sure to leave Hello %name% and %unsubscribe% alone – those places will be filled with the recipients name and unsubscribe information when the newsletter is published.
  • You can edit your links in Dreamweaver by highlighting the text you want to serve as a link and writing the COMPLETE URL (http://www.your-site.com/page.html) into the links box in the properties window at the bottom – you can cut and paste the URL’s from your browsers address bar (navigate to the page on your site you want the link to go to)– makes it easier.

  • Save the file again when you are done with all your edits.
  • Click on code view
    Place your cursor in the html field and press Ctrl and ‘a’ (select all) and then Ctrl and ‘c’ (copy)

  • Back in your browser window in the Subscribe 2 administration area:
    Place your cursor in the html field and press Ctrl and ‘a’ (select all) and then Ctrl and ‘v’ (paste)
  • In the ‘Template Name/Identifier box type in a new name for your updated newsletter
  • Change the Subject line to reflect the new name
  • Click ‘Save’
  • Your new newsletter is now listed – click on ‘preview’ to see what it will look like in the email version – if everything is the way you want it to, you can proceed to mailing your newsletter.

Mailing your Subscribe 2 Newsletter

  • In the left navigation click on ‘Create Mailing’
  • Select the newsletter you want to mail out from the drop down window and click on ‘next’

  • Click on ‘Continue’ in the next screen, if you want to send the letter out to everybody on your list.
  • Click on ‘Send’

    Click on 'Send'
    Note: you may have to disable popup blockers and/or your firewall settings (disable Norton Internet Security) if you have these services installed.
